Mad Max: Fury Road

Hey, folks welcome to another casual Friday. No doubt you’re looking for something to get into this lovely weekend, and, if I might make a suggestion, you may want to ad Mad Max: Fury Road to the mix. From the mastermind George Miller comes an action flick to raise the bar, starring Tom Hardy, Charlize Theron, Nicholas Hoult.

Mad Max: Fury Road

In a stark desert landscape where humanity is broken, two rebels just might be able to restore order: Max, a man of action and of few words, and Furiosa, a woman of action who is looking to make it back to her childhood homeland.

A Car Chase Of Epic Proportions

maxresdefault (1)As far as action films go, Mad Max: Fury Road is the Creme de la creme, the Caviar, if you will, or whatever you consider to be the “fancy stuff.” The film plays out the most epic chase scene the world has ever scene and does it over the span of two hours.

What I liked the most about Mad Max was the symbiosis of the main two characters Max (Hardy) and Furiosa (Theron). Their action scenes were incredibly synced. They moved as a unit almost appearing conscious of the others movements. Its fun to see that because these characters had never met each other and seemed to just know what to do once they were able to settle and accept the new arrangement.

Max is a great character in the way that he serves as our conduit into the middle of the story. We get to get just as swept up as Max and taken for this incredibly visceral and visually stunning ride. Tom Hardy manages to take a character that has very few lines, and makes him approachable we can see through his eyes and make a connection through the character.

The only thing that matters is survival and director George Miller does an amazing job of setting that idea up. It’s not about women, it’s not about men, it’s not about race, nor creed. It’s about making it to the next moment alive. The movie makes you feel the trudging paths of its characters.

Brilliant Cast

Every cast member in Mad Max: Fury Road does an amazing job at showcasing the depravity of the Post-Apocalyptic world that they now live in. You never feel like this one is doing to little or this one is doing too much because Miller simply does an amazing job lining up the right actors with the right characters. It was a thrill ride from start to finish and I was satisfied with the purchase I mad

Hard Pressed To Fault A Masterpiece

Rictus Erectus (Nathan Jones)
Rictus Erectus (Nathan Jones)

I have to dig deep to find anything really wrong with Mad Max: Fury Road and it’s cast. If anything, I really would have loved to hear more from the characters and perhaps discover a little more about their stories. Maybe this is the set up for the sequels. The only performance I may have a had a slight problem with was that of Nathan Jones, who played Rictus Erectus. He’s more marked by his physique than his acting skills, but I feel that Rictus Erectus was more childlike than anything and that was the aim. So, to be honest, Jones did well in the lane he was given. Erectus was a big childlike killing machine and it worked brilliantly?

Magnificent Visuals

Fury-Road-Trailer-4Mad Max: Fury Road was a visual masterpieces with expansive desert sequences and beautifully framed shots. I felt like I was looking at a film that was expertly crafted. There were enough explosions with execution that felt right. Michael Bay could learn a thing or two from Miller. The score added so much depth to the film in a way that made you feel the feral nature of the inhabitants. Seeing everything come together to make a film that felt like a true remake. Miller was able to perfect his classic using the tools that are available today.

What’s the verdict?

MadMax-FuryRoad-ImmortanJoeMad Max: Fury Road deserves every bit of praise that I and other critics are giving it. There’s a reason it has a 98% certified fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes. This film makes me wonder what all the great filmmakers could do If they revisited one their own classics and breathed new life into it.
