Batman: Assault on Arkham… minus Batman

Just enjoying a break in between some work this weekend to bring you another review. This for D.C.’s latest animated release Batman: Assault on Arkham.

In this latest animated flick, Batman “faces off” with the suicide squad and tries to find a dirty bomb hidden some where in Gotham city hidden by none other than the Clown Prince himself Joker. I say “Faces off” because Batman is not really the focus of the film. This film is center primarily around the Suicide Squad, specifically Deadshot a.k.a. Floyd Lawton (voiced by Neal McDonough).

Deadshot (front) & the Suicide Squad

It’s an interesting viewpoint, but, honestly, it works for the most part. Not a lot of fans of the Batman know the all of the story of Deadshot. In his latest incarnations his motivations are to provide a decent life for his daughter, Zoe. All of the work he does is to protect and provide for her whatever the costs. So we are basically watching Deadshot lead this team of Villains (Killer Frost, King Shark, Black Spider, Captain Boomerang, and Harley Quinn) to acquire an important piece of data from the Riddler for a government agent, Amanda Waller.

The animation style itself is reminiscent of the Arkham Game Trilogy which the game is based off of. It was an ok movie if your a fan of Batman or the Suicide Squad. I wouldn’t be in a rush to sit the kiddies in front of this one. Since there’s a few grown up situations and some language. If you’re looking for something for the kids I may try giving Son of Batman a go. Batman: Assault on Arkham was fun to watch though and is definitely a rainy day flick.
