Gotham Season 2

Gotham has had a decent start and has introduced us to the origins of characters utilizing a long game approach. This approach is entertaining, as well as requires a little patience from the audience. An understanding for basic storytelling allows viewers to appreciate where the story is going and differentiate this adapted material from the original source material. For DC this is not just another rehashing of the original comic; the Television Universe is its own separate parallel universe with in the DCU (think Earth 1 or 2, this is Earth 9999 or something like that). With that in mind one can enjoy the material that’s being presented and respect the work for what it’s for.

That being said, the show runners for Gotham have teased us with some villain introductions for next season. It’s already been said we’ll be seeing Mr. Freeze, the Mad Hatter, and Clayface (although its safe to say that most of these will not have reached their full villain potential). We may see Mr. Freeze pre-accident and the molecular biochemist, Victor Fries, seeing as how he didn’t make that change until a year after Bruce Wayne dons the Bat cowl. Clayface, may be Basil Karlo as the actor not the villain. Jervis Tetch (The Mad Hatter) may be the only villain we see just starting out considering his past, and as a neuroscientist there’s a lot of potential here for him to be a agent of Wayne Enterprises’ Board Members (the same way that the drug Venom was introduced).

This season the showrunners are promising two more villains through the descriptions given (TV Line). A “male DC Villain” that is “intelligent, cultured and highly articulate,” and “extremely attractive, both seductive and threatening,” as well as a female DC Villain in her mid- to late 20s — “a sexy knock-out.”

Who knows who these characters will be. They could be original creations, which should prove to be fun or they could be villains from outside batman’s rogues gallery to bridge the TV universes maybe. At this point anything can be speculated, but we’ll have to wait and see next season of the show.
