Metal Gear Solid the Movie Taking Shape
A movie that’s been in the planning stages for years is finally taking a big step forward in its development. News came out that the Metal Gear Solid Film has taken on a screenwriter by the name of Jay Basu. It’s good in the fact that they have finally managed to get the ball rolling as far as a story is concerned for this project. Truth be told, Basu doesn’t have much work to his name and nothing stands out in particular. The reason this is news is because of the fact that now we know that this is a project that is happening. Once a script is written production can move forward as far as casting and whatnot.
Metal Gear (Japanese: メタルギア Hepburn: Metaru Gia?) is a series of action-adventure stealth video games, created by Hideo Kojima and developed and published by Konami. The first game, Metal Gear, was released in 1987 for theMSX2. The player takes control of a special forces operative Solid Snake who is assigned to find the titular superweapon “Metal Gear“, a bipedal walking tank with the ability to launch nuclear weapons. Several sequels have been released for multiple consoles after requests from Konami to produce new Metal Gear games. The sequels expand the original game’s plot adding new characters opposing and supporting Snake, while there have also been a few prequels exploring the origins of the Metal Gear and recurring characters. This news is also breaking with the news that Jordan Vogt-Roberts is signed on for director of the film. He’s a director with a few more credits to his name having directed The Kings of Summer. It’s an Indie Film that received a pretty decent critic-acclaimed rating as well as being received well from audiences. He’s also signed on to Direct the King Kong prequel, Skull Island. He’s a name that most have considered a Director to look for. With that in mind, there may be good things that come out of this film.
The video game film genre hasn’t been received well by most audiences and an entry that can claim the respect of a critically acclaimed film has been hard-pressed. Fans of the Metal Gear Solid franchise and gamers, in general, are hoping that this attempt will change all that and usher in a new age for the video game flick. Metal Gear Solid has prided itself on the thrilling drama of its story telling and the espionage action that fuels the momentum of the games, revolutionizing the stealth game genre. It will be interesting to see where this development goes. Christian Bale has expressed his appreciation of the game franchise which lead fans to believe he’s trying to pull for the lead role, but only time will tell.
