Content to look for: The Red Band Society

So I got a chance to watch an early release of a pilot for a new show on Fox called The Red Band Society. Have to say, I found it pretty intriguing.

It’s based on a Spanish comedy drama series of the same name. It centers around the lives of young teens growing up in a hospital. I didn’t know what to expect when I pressed play, but I definitely found myself entertained and intrigued with the lives of these characters and how they interacted with the world around them. I found it interesting that so much could be pulled from characters in one episode. In the short amount of time that a television series has sometimes all we get is a sampling of the characters. What hooks us are the cliff hangers and plot twists, but in this episode, I found myself truly invested in these characters and wanted to find out what more this world has to offer. It’s a “day in the life” scenario, and every day seems to be interesting.

The story itself is told from the ears of a young coma patient and is an interesting look at social cliches. The walls are broken down in a hospital of terminally ill teens that are trying to find hope and grow up at the same time. It takes an interesting journey in to social dynamics and how groups that would never socialize under “normal” circumstances would socialize in this setting.

If your looking for something new to fill your TV roster this fall, I definitely recommend the Red Band Society. Most of TV is going to be filled with comedies, action shows, and paranormal & political thrillers, but it’s nice to see that a true to it’s core drama is going to be in circulation.
